What is Scorpion Stinger?
Scorpion Stinger is our aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) coating. As the tool heats up, the aluminum converts to a stable aluminum-oxide layer that shields the cutting edge — giving an oxidation onset temperature near 900 °C, among the highest commercially available, and roughly double the max operating temperature of TiN. It performs hardest exactly when the edge is hottest.
Best for: High-temperature, high-speed, and dry machining of hard materials.
Key properties
- Oxidation onset ~900 °C — among the highest available
- Self-forming aluminum-oxide protective layer
- Roughly 2× the operating temperature of TiN
- Note: not biocompatible
